About the Role
Reporting to the Regional Lead, Public Sector Solutions APAC, you will lead all Public Sector Solutions (PSS) team activities in Australia and New Zealand to engage with Governments (at sovereign and sub-sovereign levels), state-owned enterprises (SOEs), sovereign wealth funds (SWFs), development banks, export credit agencies (ECAs), multilateral organisations and 'third sector' entities/NGOs to offer risk analytics and risk transfer solutions, facilitate economic development and increase insurance protection and financial inclusion.
You will develop business by working in close collaboration with cross-functional teams in Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions, IptiQ, and Group Functions such as Alternative Capital Partners, Group Digital and Technology Transformation, Asset Management and the Swiss Re Institute.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a profitable growth strategy, including action plans and financial targets, for the public sector in ANZ.
- Approach and interact with national and state governments (sovereign and sub-sovereign levels), SOEs, SWFs and their investee companies, ECAs, development banks and organisations, and NGOs to understand their risk analysis and financing needs and advise them on their contingent liabilities and risk transfer options.
- Work with experts to develop risk insights, analytics and solutions via insurance, reinsurance and capital market modalities for public sector clients and prospects.
- Lead internal cross-functional deal teams to bring transactions over the finishing line.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with insurance and tech partners to deliver together integrated solutions to state governments and other public entities/institutions.
- Raise and maintain the profile of Swiss Re as industry thought leader with deep risk insight expertise, particularly of great relevance for the public sector.
About You
You will possess:
- Extensive insurance/risk management experience;
- Client focus, perseverance, ability to turn customer needs into transactions;
- Understanding and addressing the needs of the public sector;
- Ambition to build and collaborate with governments, SOEs, SWFs, NGOs and development banks by demonstrating your well-established network;
- Successful track record of scaling up a business, ideally in the APAC region.
- Solid understanding of at least one of the main risks (agricultural production, natural catastrophes, life & health, infrastructure projects) and the corresponding risk transfer products;
- Excellence in driving the follow-up and transaction management;
- Evidence of excellent analysis and judgement; a high level of business insight;
- Strategic vision and agility with ability to anticipate future consequences and trends;
- Effective in working across functions for structuring/pricing and virtual teams to successfully close transactions;
- Strong communication, presentation skills and time management;
- Ability to undertake considerable travel in ANZ and the region;
- University degree or higher education, preferably in economics, finance, business administration or natural sciences.

Public Sector Solutions (PSS) are Swiss Re's team dedicated to leading and managing business across the full breadth of the Group's activities that is placed with Governments and other public sector entities who are becoming increasingly aware of the various risks they absorb as explicit or implicit risk takers. This provides Swiss Re with a substantial opportunity for expansion across both the Property & Casualty and Life & Health segments, and business development with the public sector is an important element of Swiss Re's high growth markets strategy.
