Senior Client Underwriter P&C

About the Role

 

This role offers a blend of client-facing and technical underwriting responsibility, allowing for application of your underwriting skills, while building your personal brand with clients in the broader market. You will work alongside a diverse and experienced team of underwriters and client underwriters, with an unparalleled chance to further develop with a global leading organisation.

 

Your responsibilities will include, however, are not limited to:

 

  • Working as part of the P&C team, managing a portfolio of regional and national clients across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific, aligning with Swiss Re's targets and guidelines;
  • Performing underwriting, costing, referral and pricing tasks for treaty business in property and casualty, using Swiss Re's proprietary tools and models;
  • Developing/executing business plans including marketing objectives and strategies for your portfolio of clients;
  • Collaborating with offshore modelling/actuarial teams for analysis, validation, peer review, and broader underwriting input;
  • Actively contributing to client/broker interactions, manage client relationships, and work with cross-functional teams to progress treaty renewals and develop new business opportunities; and
  • Assisting with broader strategic and portfolio-based initiatives, including ad-hoc projects and portfolio deep dives, management/stakeholder requests, client audits, reviews and monitoring of portfolio performance and other project-related-work as it arises.

 

About the Team

 

You will join a focused and committed team that is part of an interconnected global community. Reporting into the Market Head, P&C (ANZ), you will work with a team of experts. The P&C Team comprises of both Client Managers (CM) and Client Underwriters (CUW) and are collectively responsible for driving and managing Swiss Re's engagement with clients in the ANZ market.

About You

 

You will possess:

 

  • Minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience in (re)insurance;
  • Strong underwriting background;
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with colleagues and stakeholders;
  • An inquisitive mind, strong growth mindset and the desire to proactively contribute, take on responsibility and deliver to a high standard;
  • Analytical mindset and familiarity with common tools, techniques and processes used to assess and quantify risk;
  • University degree in an analytical discipline e.g. actuarial, finance, mathematics, business, econometrics/economics (or similar) highly regarded; 
  • Action orientated with 'hunger' to achieve great results; and
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
