About the Role

As a Claims Specialist, you will have an extraordinary and exciting opportunity to work in an agile and cross-functional environment within the Swiss Re (SR) Claims team where servicing customers in the best possible way is of utmost importance. You will handle claims with a client focus, effectiveness and efficiency, and actively support the building of a modern, state of the art claims organization.

 

Claims Management

  • Work with the Head Property & Casualty (P&C) Claims Japan to implement a market-specific, portfolio-directed claims management service, in association with experts from cross functional stakeholders, in accordance with an overall strategic approach to managing SR's business risks and client relationships.
  • Manage the claims portfolio via a portfolio management approach utilising claims reporting tools available, identifying key areas of focus and generating insights.
  • Efficiently manage high value claims from first advice of loss to ultimate settlement.
  • Identify claims that have major impact on SR; conduct factual analysis, detailed review, reserve setting, and decide upon SR's ultimate liability to pay. Accountable for implementing the right claims strategy for resolution of the claims.
  • Manage additional support as required, e.g. loss adjusters; legal, external experts, etc.
  • Provide timely reporting and insights to benefit stakeholders in managing our business.
  • Collaborate closely with the Operations team in Bangalore to achieve key functional KPIs and maintain SR's operational excellence.

 

Thought Leadership

  • Engage clients on topical trends and raising SR's Thought Leadership to assist business development by being a trusted partner for our clients.
  • Meet clients to discuss developments on key claims or a selection of claims as part of a review exercise either pre or post deals.
  • Monitor key developments, trends etc., in the various markets that are covered by Japan business unit and analysing their impact on the portfolio of claims. Advise internal stakeholders on impact of developments.

 

Detailed Job Functions

  • Review and manage all lines of claims. The scope also includes advising clients on primary policy wordings and conducting training programs on emerging claim topics.
  • Interact regularly with other members of global-wide Claims teams and be involved in local, regional and global projects, seminars, conferences, training workshops and professional development networks.
  • Represent Claims in cross-functional teams to support business origination and deliver according to the business plan.
  • Monitor and manage all outsourcing activities that the P&C Claims Japan outsources.
  • Undertake international travel, as required by the Head P&C Claims Japan.

 

 

About You

  • Significant technical P&C claims expertise across market-relevant products with a minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Sound understanding of standard insurance policy wordings in all lines of business.
  • Basic knowledge of reinsurance contract wordings.
  • Proficiency in English and Japanese, both written and spoken.
  • A degree in Insurance, Engineering, Business, or Law, with preference given to those with analytical skills.
  • Ability to be persuasive in business discussions and negotiations.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills with the ability to lead industry-wide discussions.
  • A team player.
