 Job Summary

  • As a member of the Life & Health Team based in Japan, this role will serve to build client relationships and provide underwriting and claims related services to Swiss Re’s Life & Health clients.
  • This role will require frequent client contact, as well as close co-operation with other teams and stakeholders within Swiss Re globally, regionally and locally.
  • While this role oversees both the Underwriting and Claims functions, we recognise the successful candidate may only have an Underwriting or Claims background. In that event we expect that the successful candidate will be open to learning the function they are not familiar with.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Swiss Re’s Underwriting and Claims strategy, promote Underwriting and Claims value propositions and to position Swiss Re as a market leader in risks.
  • Develop and implement Swiss Re's Underwriting and Claims risk framework and principles and ensure risks are assumed on a sound, prudent and consistent basis
  • Lead a team of experienced Underwriting and Claims professionals 
  • Represent Swiss Re as a leader of the local Underwriting and Claims risk assessment and management function
  • Manage the Underwriting and Claims functions, develop sound business processes and redefine where appropriate
  • Manage policies, practices, governance, client focused projects, strategies and trends affecting both Life Claims and Underwriting
  • Collaborate with Swiss Re Underwriting and Claims Office, and Solutions, to promote and implement new initiatives such as data analytics and technology on Gen AI application                                       
  • Adopt a partnering approach when carrying out Underwriting and Claims reviews with clients
  • Lead/participate in departmental or company-wide projects in relation to risk culture
  • Develop and conduct appropriate training programs for clients
  • Support relevant projects such as internal system updates, underwriting guidelines, Life Guide and Claims Guide updates.
  • Build and maintain a strong market profile in both the Underwriting and Claims community
  • Provide input to quotes and product development initiatives
  • Plan, support and conduct impactful Claims and Underwriting seminars, workshops and/or trainings which meet clients' specific needs
  • Participate and promote in Swiss Re’s Global Underwriting and Claims ’s shared initiatives and solutions
  • Promote and support your team's professional and personal development

You're a strategic thinker with excellent leadership abilities and a passion for the Life & Health insurance sector. You thrive in client-facing roles and enjoy building relationships while delivering technical expertise. While ideally you have experience in both underwriting and claims, we welcome candidates with deep expertise in either area who are eager to expand their knowledge.

 

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years' relevant Life & Health insurance or reinsurance experience, with exposure to the Japanese market
  • Fluent Japanese language skills and professional English communication ability
  • University degree qualification
  • Proven leadership experience with strong strategic thinking and organizational skills
  • Excellent client relationship management capabilities
  • Experience with both underwriting and claims functions
  • Knowledge of underwriting/claims systems and digital tools
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with clients, staff and other divisional personnel to promote efficient underwriting initiatives/operational management
