Junior Underwriter Casualty
Seeking a dynamic, market facing Casualty Underwriter who can work independently but enjoys a collaborative team environment, in a flexible working environment, where work-life balance is a priority, and performance is rewarded.
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of Casualty clients, working closely with brokers, agents and our distribution team and operational team members to grow the book of business. You will be a member of a combined FinPro and Casualty team and report to the Head of the team.
About the Role
The role of Underwriter Casualty, is to develop the target portfolio of Casualty risks, working closely with both internal and external customers.
Collaboration within the team and across teams is valued.
As an underwriter of a growing line of business, you will play a significant role in the future success of our business, and you will have an active role in helping deliver the business strategy.
You will be expected to solicit new and renewal business as a market-facing underwriter, managing submission activity and ensuring execution of portfolio management duties in accordance with corporate standards and appetite.
You may be involved in new product development licensing, roll out and support. Internal travel within Japan will be required.
About the Team
The Casualty & FinPro Team covers our portfolio of liability risks, and reports into the Head of Casualty & FinPro. Within the team, your focus will be on Casualty business underwriting. The portfolio of both lines of business is strategic and growing. There are regular team meetings, and your active participation is encouraged. There is strong collaboration within the team and across teams within the wider operation.
About You
You will have experience in the insurance industry with:
Essential
- Bachelor's degree
- Three years or more experience in the Financial Industry sector (ideally insurance)
- Basic knowledge of the Japanese insurance market
- Strong oral and written communication ability in Japanese and English
- Negotiation, relationship management and marketing skills
Nice to have
- Experience in underwriting and marketing/production of corporate Casualty insurance
- Basic knowledge and experience in the underwriting of Casualty products
