Legal Counsel
Position Outline
The Legal Counsel shall be working in the APAC Legal & Compliance team with primary focus in managing legal & compliance issues relating to Swiss Re's operations in Japan, namely Swiss Re International SE, Japan branch, and Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd., Japan branch.
You will work with a multi-jurisdictional and diverse team of legal & compliance professionals operating in a global organization and culturally diverse environment to provide legal advice to support Swiss Re's businesses and operations, while safeguarding sound governance standards.
Responsibility
- Partner with cross functional business teams and provide legal advice on the implementation of business strategies, business transactions and initiatives
- Draft and review of legal documents in relation to business transactions and initiatives
- Provide legal advice on products, claims and re/insurance contracts related issues
- Identify and mitigate legal risks in new business models and initiatives
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments in Japan and analyze their impact on Swiss Re
- Assist on regulatory issues in Japan, including regulatory inspections and onsite reviews
- Manage compliance matters including establishing the appropriate framework and processes
- Enhance corporate governance particularly relating to operation of the branches in Japan
- Manage legal advice related to general corporate matters, with a strong focus on corporate structure, regulatory and licensing matters
- Participate in Group and regional projects and other relevant tasks
- Apply highest ethical standards and maintain independence as a lawyer
About You
Essential
- Bachelor's degree or above, majoring in law
- 8 years+ work experience in financial industry, P&C insurance companies, or law firms that specialize in insurance practices
- Familiar with global/local financial industry's regulatory trend
- Strong business acumen, adaptive to change and agile
- Attention to details and ability to work independently, efficiently including proper prioritisation
- Good communication and cross-cultural skills
- Native Japanese with Business English
Nice to have
- Experience in FSA interaction
- Japan bar admission
