Risk Engineer

Job Description

 

We are looking for a (senior) risk engineer to work in our Property insurance business segment in Japan. You will conduct insurance risk engineering surveys and provide consultations to our Japan and international program customers in the Japan and Asia region. Your work will involve assessing risk exposure from natural perils i.e. earthquake and manmade perils e.g. Fire, explosion etc. You will work with our property underwriters and customers to provide risk engineering technical advice on risk quality, loss estimates, natural hazard exposures, capacity allocation and loss prevention measures for mid to large property accounts.

 

The opportunity

 

As a senior risk engineer, you will assume the role as an account risk engineer for selected accounts on which Swiss Re participates. You will carry out on-site risk inspections and operations reviews on behalf of underwriting/marketing units. You will interact with customers, brokers and underwriters regularly. You will provide risk engineering consultation to our customers in the form of insurance risk surveys, risk improvement recommendations, loss mitigation proposals and specifications. You will formulate risk improvement recommendations to assist clients in their effort to improve the risk quality of their assets.

 

You will provide technical consultations to Corporate Solutions property underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, capacity allocation and loss prevention measures of given large and medium size risk  primarily in the industrial and large commercial sectors. 

 

As a member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) community, you will collaborate and contribute to various projects and papers involving best practices, guidelines, Underwriter guidelines and technology and industry updates.

 

About You

Essential

  • Engineering knowledge on earthquake hazard assessment (shaking, soil liquefaction, etc. and protection solutions (structural/civil engineering) and respective Japanese and international building safety codes
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in insurance risk engineering
  • Industry experience in semiconductor, electronics, chemicals, automotive, and metal works
  • Knowledge in loss prevention practices for man-made perils, e.g. fire, explosion
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English and Japanese
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office

 

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of EQ design modelling applications, methods, and tools
  • Degree in civil, mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering
  • Communication skill in North Asia language e.g. Mandarin, Cantonese
