Job Summary

 

  • This position is part of the Property Treaty Underwriting Desk in Tokyo and he/she will be responsible for property treaty underwriting in Japan.
  • The position requires sound analytical, mathematical modelling and advanced financial skill, as well as capability to handle large client dataset in a consistent, timely and independent manner.
  • The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the three strategic focus areas of the team:
    1/ Originating and executing underwriting tasks on customized transactions
    2/ Underwriting a portfolio of annually renewable contracts
    3/ Contribute to Swiss Re's efforts to enlarge the pool of insured risks
  • The position also requires skill to represent Swiss Re in meetings with clients, brokers and other Swiss Re entities, as well as discuss and negotiate terms in cooperation with client teams.
  • For candidate to qualify for Vice President band, leading medium-size Desk and Group projects and taking responsibility for the development of colleagues is expected.

 

Detailed Job Functions (including local functions)

 

  • Technically assesses and costs all treaty types of obligatory risk-transfer business in compliance with group guideline and best practice.
  • Designs customized reinsurance and insurance products to create value for society, our clients and Swiss Re, ensure profitability for Swiss Re, and supports client management in these efforts.
  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement and network of Treaty Underwriting know-how. Actively strive for knowledge transfer from other Underwriting desks, and contribute to Underwriting quality check and peer reviews as part of training junior Underwriters.
  • Supports other Swiss Re functions/regions in origination and underwriting of related products.
  • Administers Property Treaty book, Contribute to APAC portfolio strategic plan, local Go to Market strategy and reports business performance internally according to guideline.

 

About You

Technical Expertise

  • Bachelors or higher degree, preferably areas in Science/ Engineering/ Finance
  • 2- 7 years professional experience in Re/Insurance market, or other financial industry
  • Experience in insurance product design, insurance marketing and insurance underwriting is a plus
  • Excellent PC skills (Word, Excel and Access), experience in programming and/or big data techniques and/or building and usage of Natural Catastrophe Risk Assessment models
  • Knowledge and experience in capital and liquidity management, structured products and project management is a plus.
  • Persuasive communication and negotiation skills internally and externally. Feels at ease to communicate between various functions internally and with clients on a high technical level.
  • Initiative skills to identify problems, make a proposal for improvement, and execute the initiatives independently
