About the Role

As an Underwriter for Property Facultative, you will be at the heart of Swiss Re's facultative reinsurance business in Japan. Based in Tokyo, the Japan team plays a pivotal role in managing and growing Swiss Re's property facultative portfolio, working closely with leading insurers, brokers, and industry partners. With a strong focus on technical excellence, client partnership, and market development, the team combines deep local expertise with the power of Swiss Re's global network to create meaningful value for clients and the business alike.

About You

You are a technically strong and commercially minded underwriting professional who thrives in a client-facing environment. You bring a collaborative spirit and an entrepreneurial drive, with the ability to identify opportunities, build relationships, and deliver tailored solutions. You are comfortable navigating both local Japanese market dynamics and international reinsurance landscapes, and you communicate with confidence and clarity in both Japanese and English.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Commercial & industrial property underwriting experience in insurance and/or facultative reinsurance, with a solid track record of assessing and pricing complex risks
  • Deep technical knowledge of manmade risks and natural catastrophe risks, including risk mitigation measures and exposure assessment methodologies

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Experience in client origination and pipeline development, with a proven ability to identify and convert new business opportunities
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach to driving business growth and developing innovative client solutions
  • Ability to understand, anticipate, and respond to client needs, building long-term, trust-based relationships with key market participants
