About the Role
As part of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' continued growth in Japan, we are expanding our Operations team and seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Underwriting Associate to join our Tokyo office. This role, positioned within the Operations team, offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with Underwriters and cross-functional teams—locally, regionally, and globally—to support underwriting activities and contribute to operational excellence.
We are looking for a team player with a strong customer focus, solid experience in insurance operations, and a passion for delivering high-quality work. Familiarity with Property insurance is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Input and maintain accurate data in underwriting systems and tools.
 - Manage closings, statements, and contract amendments throughout the policy lifecycle.
 - Support premium handling, including monitoring and follow-ups.
 - Prepare and maintain documentation (both electronic and physical) in line with internal guidelines.
 - Assist with endorsement processing and post-underwriting tasks.
 - Prepare policy documentation (paper and electronic formats).
 - Ensure adherence to performance standards, metrics, and controls.
 - Identify and resolve data inconsistencies by proactively engaging with stakeholders.
 - Participate in and support ad-hoc operational projects.
 - Generate and maintain regulatory reports (e.g., FSA contract checklist, AML key control monitoring).
 - Provide pre-underwriting support for Property line, including risk review, costing, quote preparation, and endorsement handling.
 - Collaborate with outsourced service providers to ensure data quality and issue resolution.
 - Communicate with internal and external customers via various means.
 
Additional Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison with onshore/offshore contractors to resolve queries and provide guidance.
 - Follow up diligently on outstanding documentation and tasks.
 - Support internal /external reporting.
 - Assist Underwriters and Line Managers as needed.
 
About You
- University degree or equivalent.
 - Native-level Japanese proficiency and current residence in Japan.
 - Business-level English proficiency (TOEIC 800+ recommended) and experience working in an English-speaking environment and comfortable using in business.
 - 2–4 years of experience in insurance operations, preferably in commercial lines.
 - Strong customer service orientation and attention to detail.
 - Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
 - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
 - Ability to manage complex tasks and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders.
 - Willingness to learn and adapt to new processes and technologies.
 - Better to have: Knowledge of Property insurance products and underwriting processes.
