About the Role

As an Underwriting Associate based in Tokyo, you will play a vital role in supporting our underwriting operations across the Property line of business. You'll be the backbone of our underwriting team — ensuring data accuracy, managing documentation, and delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders. This is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your expertise in commercial insurance operations while working in a truly international and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Input and maintain accurate data in underwriting systems and tools, ensuring data integrity at every stage
  • Manage closings, statements, and contract amendments throughout the full policy lifecycle with precision and care
  • Support premium handling, including proactive monitoring and timely follow-ups to ensure smooth operations
  • Prepare and maintain documentation (both electronic and physical) in strict alignment with internal guidelines and compliance standards
  • Assist with endorsement processing and post-underwriting tasks to support seamless policy management
  • Prepare policy documentation in both paper and electronic formats, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure adherence to performance standards, metrics, and controls to uphold operational excellence
  • Identify and resolve data inconsistencies by proactively engaging with relevant stakeholders across the business
  • Participate in and support ad-hoc operational projects, contributing fresh ideas and a solutions-focused mindset
  • Generate and maintain regulatory reports (e.g., FSA contract checklist, AML key control monitoring) in line with regulatory requirements
  • Provide pre-underwriting support for the Property line, including risk review, costing, quote preparation, and endorsement handling
  • Collaborate with outsourced service providers to ensure data quality and timely issue resolution
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers through various channels
  • Act as a liaison with onshore/offshore contractors to resolve queries and provide clear guidance
  • Follow up diligently on outstanding documentation and tasks to keep operations running smoothly
  • Support internal and external reporting requirements as needed
  • Assist Underwriters and Line Managers with a range of tasks to support the broader team's success

About the Team

You will be joining our Property Underwriting Operations team in Tokyo — a dedicated and collaborative group that sits at the heart of our commercial lines business in Japan. The team is responsible for supporting the full underwriting lifecycle for Property lines, from pre-underwriting preparation and risk review through to policy documentation, data management, and regulatory reporting. Working closely with underwriters, offshore service providers, and external clients, the team plays a critical role in ensuring operational excellence and delivering high-quality service in a fast-paced, international environment.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and detail-driven professional who brings a strong customer service mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex tasks with confidence. You are someone who embraces continuous learning, adapts readily to new processes and technologies, and thrives when working with diverse teams across different cultures and geographies.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Native-level Japanese proficiency with current residence in Japan — essential for effective communication with local clients and stakeholders
  • Business-level English proficiency (TOEIC 800+ recommended) with demonstrated experience working in an English-speaking professional environment
  • 2–4 years of experience in insurance operations, preferably within commercial lines, with a solid understanding of operational workflows
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook — used daily to manage data, documentation, and reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data inconsistencies and drive resolution proactively

These are additional nice to haves:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field
  • Knowledge of Property insurance products and underwriting processes
  • Experience collaborating with onshore/offshore service providers or in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
  • A genuine willingness to learn and adapt to evolving processes, systems, and technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
