The Branch Operations Manager has oversight of the branch's operating platform, covering both P&C and L&H reinsurance business in Japan Branch.  In the role you act as the Business Partner for the Branch Manager (for legal entity management and operational excellence), as well as the Client Management Head (for supporting business plan and market strategy implementation)

This exciting role will require certain experience in branch operations and legal entity management and preferable some knowledge in business plan and strategy implementation. This role will involve management of a highly diverse and skilled team who work in an agile nature to support not only the local business, but also Asia Branch operations as required

 

The key components of the role are:

 

  1. Branch Operations & Legal Entity Management
  • Collaborate with the relevant functions (mainly enabling functions) at the branch, and have oversight on the local operating platform (including both P&C and L&H business), to ensure appropriate quality and output is delivered through a coordinated approach.  This includes also being the conduit to all enabling (corporate) functions and host regular corporate function meetings, lead and facilitate discussions between teams, projects, ensure smooth branch operations

 

  • Ownership and oversight of the local implementation of group and regional operating policies such as the APAC outsourcing framework and Group outsourcing policies and business continuity management leadership.

 

  • Act as the Business Partner for the Branch Manager, in delivering the Branch Governance Framework; and collaborate across functions at branch to strengthen branch governance; make necessary adjustments (at branch level) to ensure complying local regulatory requirements.  

 

  • Represent operations functions from at an JMT (Japan Management Team) level and manage branch governance meetings (JMT etc). This will include also the oversight of and representation at the JMT operations areas such as Corporate Real Estate & Services (CRES), IT, and Communications;

 

  • Act as the change agent to drive Operational Excellence within the branch (P&C and L&H), and utilize all existing resources (functions / subject matter expertise) to implement sustainable solution; particularly on areas of identified operational weakness (e.g. ORM incident, ORM Event, GIA findings) and inconsistency across branches.  

 

  • Be a bridging member between Business Units (BU) within Japan legal entities. There are agenda such as CSR, BCM (and Incident Management), Media responses and other regulatory activities that are common to BU regardless of business firewall. To support Country President, act as a sounding board and coordinator between RI and CorSo business units.

 

  • Be an active member of the JMT, the local S&O team leader and ensure escalation and dissemination of information to the JMT, Operations Round Table, APAC OS RT (Outsourcing Round-table), S&O Asia teams

 

  • Responsible for the collaboration with other S&O Asia teams such as the L&H and P&C Business Operations teams and Business Services to ensure an aligned approach for local execution, as the local "S&O" responsible

 

  • Execute ad-hoc task to support the Head of Japan, Head of Regional Branch Operations and Asia S&O, in relation to other operational priorities

 

  1. Market Strategy and Business Plan
  • Facilitate the implementation of market strategy and business plan, via supporting the local P&C and L&H CM Head.  This may include maintenance and monitoring of business and operational plans and tracking activities to ensure timely execution of agreed actions; or Project manage those large / prioritized initiatives

 

  • Review resource allocation to ensure successful delivery of priorities. Identify any obstacles and issues together with recommend actions

About you

  • Relevant knowledge and experience of branch operations and legal entity management
  • High level knowledge and expertise of the insurance and reinsurance industry, and the legal and economic/ social environment in which it operates
  • Prefer within knowledge of Swiss Re organization
  • Demonstrated leadership capability in complex matrix organization, able to leverage relationships and apply leadership 'authority' in a wider sense, not limited to direct reporting lines
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, able to influence and negotiate effectively with across functions/seniority levels
  • Analytical and out of box thinking to drive the best solutions to fit circumstances
  • Agile with a "can-do" attitude
  • Strong skill of managing expectations and deadlines in face of complexity, conflicting pressure and ambiguous circumstances
  • Good level of financial acumen
  • Relevant industry qualification and/or business degree
