Finance Manager

Are you a financially sharp, analytically driven professional who thrives at the intersection of data, strategy, and storytelling? Do you want to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial direction of a global reinsurance leader? If so, this is your opportunity to make a real impact!

About the Role

As a Finance Manager within our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function, you will be at the heart of empowering business leaders with the insights, analytics, and financial planning they need to make bold, informed decisions. You will develop a deep understanding of our business to identify and communicate the drivers of financial performance, while producing financial plans that reflect our strategic ambitions. This is a role for someone pragmatic, curious, and collaborative — someone who can extract meaning from complex data, connect the dots across the organization, and communicate answers with clarity and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

Performance & Analytics

  • Build a detailed understanding of financial performance drivers each quarter by cultivating strong relationships across client markets, reporting and controlling, and actuarial/pricing functions
  • Ensure timely and accurate analysis and submissions of financial performance to senior stakeholders, including pipeline information, dashboards, and quarterly performance reports
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to respond to ad-hoc requests and present findings and recommendations to management

New Business Close Process & Business Plan

  • Work closely with the BU FP&A team to support and develop requirements for New Business projections and the business plan
  • Facilitate change activities related to IFRS-17 performance reporting by maintaining a full end-to-end understanding of business and finance operations, ledger closing, and financial reporting (e.g., New Business and Business Plan)
  • Analyze business results and system outputs, ensuring consistent valuation compared to the business plan and costing
  • Drive business input into IFRS-17 KPI and business plan development, serving as the key connection point between Finance Americas and the BU L&H team

Business Steering

  • Act as a trusted finance partner in strategic discussions, supporting the business in commercial decision-making
  • Provide clear, actionable insights into the financial impact of transactions and other business actions

About the Team

The team falls within the broader mandate of FP&A Americas Life & Health (L&H) Re and proudly supports the Canadian portfolio — making it the go-to function for the region on all matters related to performance management, financial steering, reporting, and advisory on growth initiatives, transactions, and other business priorities. We work closely with client managers, other Finance teams, and the wider Swiss Re organization, bringing together a rich diversity of perspectives and expertise. Our vibrant, collaborative team is made up of members based across Armonk, Kansas City, Miami, and Toronto — and we are excited to welcome a new voice to the mix!

About You

You are an analytically outstanding professional with a sharp commercial mindset and a talent for crafting compelling financial narratives. You bring curiosity, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize and deliver high-quality results under time pressure. Your excellent interpersonal skills allow you to engage confidently and constructively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization — and your collaborative, positive energy makes you a valued partner wherever you work.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Experience with L&H IFRS Financials is required, with a solid understanding of multi-valuation concepts, in particular IFRS 17/9
  • 5–7 years of relevant work experience (5+ years in insurance), with strong knowledge of insurance/reinsurance business and performance drivers
  • Academic background encompassing elements of Mathematics, Computer Science, financial modelling, actuarial sciences, and/or finance

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Strong computing and data management skills; knowledge of multiple financial systems and programming languages is a significant advantage
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills — the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, engaging storylines for diverse audiences
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed organization and navigating cross-functional collaboration across geographies
  • Familiarity with FP&A processes including business planning, forecasting, and performance reporting in a reinsurance or insurance context
