Property & Specialty Claims Specialist


Are you a Property Claims professional with 3+ years of Commercial Property Claims experience? As a Claims Specialist, you will play a critical role on the Swiss Re Property & Specialty Claims Team.  Expect to work closely with your manager and fellow Claims, Underwriting and Risk Management colleagues to drive files to resolution. Together, you will be tasked with achieving the best possible outcomes for Swiss Re and its clients by resolving and settling claims proactively

About the Role

We are looking for a Claims Specialist who will be responsible for handling general Property & Specialty Claims while also supporting internal and external customers. The ideal candidate will have claims handling experience and possess solid coverage, damage investigation, evaluation, negotiation, claims resolution and customer service skills. This is a hybrid position where you would be required to work in the office three times per week. 


Your main responsibilities will be:
•    Manage, investigate, analyze, negotiate and resolve commercial property claims within Canada and internationally.
•    Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants and engineers 
•    Investigate, evaluate and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and people skills to effect fair and prompt claim resolution.
•    Complete detailed reviews of claim related issues, including coverage, liability and damage and document the claim file appropriately.
•    Set and maintain appropriate and timely indemnity and expense reserves
•    Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate.
•    Attend settlement conferences and trials.
•    Attend loss locations and other customer and broker meetings, when appropriate.
•    Represent and promote Swiss Re Corporate Solutions at industry conferences, client events and professional society functions

About the Role

•    Undergraduate Degree and/or equivalent work experience
•    Actively pursuing CIP/FCIP Designation is an asset
•    3+ years Commercial Property Claims handling experience. 
•    Bilingual English/French is an asset
•    International Business claim handling experience is a plus.  

•    Experience interacting and managing panel insurers on subscription based poicies is an asset​​​

•    Excellent customer service skills with experience building and maintaining relationships with underwriters, clients, brokers, and other internal and external business partners.
•    Hardworking sales mindset, applying consultative selling skills to develop insights, propose solutions and build growth opportunities for clients and Corporate Solutions.
•    Well organized, focused and self-motivated to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
•    Strong oral, written and communication skills
•    Excellent negotiation skills.
•    Interest in developing leadership and management skills.
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•    Flexible to travel as needed (10-20%)
