Senior Risk Manager

 

We are hiring a Senior Operational Risk Manager to join us in the Life and Health Operational Risk Management team supporting stakeholders in the Americas region. You will have the opportunity to acquire an overview of Swiss Re's risk taking globally across the Life and Health as well as some Property and Casualty reinsurance businesses with regular exposure to senior management. About the Role

Along with the wider team, you will be responsible for managing operational risk management and supporting senior management in the effective management of operational risk within their portfolio to increase Swiss Re's resilience and ability to honour its promises. While this is a Global role, you will focus on providing operational risk expertise to stakeholders in the Americas with significant focus on Canada.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Providing expertise and advice to help business partners balance business strategy with appropriate risk controls in respect of their operational risk identification, assessment and mitigation of risk.
  • Being the Subject Matter Expert on operational risk methodologies and tools, providing guidance to other members of the Life and Health as well as Canada Property and Casualty community.
  • Coordinating with Operational Risk teams and Assurance functions to ensure an effective, fit for purpose assurance plan.
  • Participating in Life and Health as well as Property and Casualty operational risk reviews, risk deep dives or projects that contribute towards enhanced understanding and mitigation of specific risks.
  • Manage broader risk management projects as required, working closely with risk managers in the Americas region and Group and L&H business units.

 

About You

Essentials

  • University degree with 10+ years of experience in a Risk, Operational, or Audit function.
  • Strong understanding of risk frameworks, including Life & Health and/or Property & Casualty reinsurance processes and controls; experience across multiple business functions is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to influence and negotiate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Independent, self‑directed professional with strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and execute end‑to‑end.
  • Collaborative team player with an agile learning mindset; open to new perspectives, business insights, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.

Nice to Have

  • L&H Costing/Reserving knowledge and frameworks
  • Knowledge of L&H and/or P&C Operations/Processes 

 

The base salary hiring range for this existing position located in Toronto is CAD $160,000 to $190,000. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
