Underwriting Analyst

About the Role
As an Underwriting Analyst, you'll play a vital role in supporting our Property insurance underwriting operations, with a focus on International Programs. You'll be the operational backbone that keeps the underwriting process running smoothly — processing assignments with precision, coordinating across global teams, and providing critical administrative and technical support to Property Underwriters and Client Managers.
Your work will have a direct and measurable impact on productivity, process efficiency, timeliness, profitability, and the overall accuracy of the underwriting process.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and manage underwriting assignments accurately and within established turnaround standards, ensuring data integrity at every step
- Coordinate closely with underwriting teams, on-shore and off-shore support functions, and cross-functional partners including Products, Finance, and Claims
- Support international placement needs for Regions outside North America requiring local coverage, as well as North America teams placing coverage internationally
- Communicate professionally with Underwriters and Brokers via telephone, email, and in-person interactions, delivering consistently high-quality service
- Conduct preliminary deal analysis and prepare account data for review by Underwriters and Client Managers
- Review and interpret complex source documents from external customers, determining appropriate next steps and composing business correspondence as needed
- Collaborate on the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, system improvements, and process change testing and piloting
- Build subject matter expertise in International Business processes, tools, and systems — serving as a go-to resource and coach for colleagues
- Generate and verify predefined business reports, maintaining a high level of competency across complex systems and workflows
- Proactively problem-solve to meet and exceed client and broker expectations, while adhering to internal standards and controls
- Identify and recommend process and system improvement opportunities, contributing to ongoing operational reviews and task analyses
- Follow up with Underwriters and stakeholders on outstanding items and documentation to ensure timely resolution
- Participate in meetings, seminars, and training programs to stay current with international regulations and continuously develop your skills
- Contribute to special projects as assigned, supporting broader business and operational initiatives

About You

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- 2–4 years of experience in insurance operations, underwriting support, or International Programs — with a solid understanding of property insurance workflows
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, with the ability to manage data and reporting across multiple platforms
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow structured operational processes, procedures, and controls — with experience managing multi-system workflows simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with globally distributed teams, brokers, underwriters, and stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify discrepancies, assess impacts, and escalate issues appropriately
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience with audit readiness and documentation discipline, including data integrity and operational controls awareness
- Familiarity with multinational programs, local offices, and international regulatory frameworks
- Process improvement mindset — experience identifying and implementing operational efficiencies
- Ability to support system and process testing, including piloting operational change initiatives
- Multi-system coordination skills, including workflow dependency management across complex operational environments
- Comfort with adapting to evolving technologies and changing priorities in a dynamic global organization
- Strong customer service orientation with a track record of exceeding client and broker expectations
The base salary hiring range for this existing position is CAD $75,000 - $92,000. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
