Natural Catastrophe & Climate Insurance, Lead Technical Sales - hybrid
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated professional with an entrepreneurial mindset and a collaborative approach, ideally with 6–10 years of relevant experience in structuring and selling risk transfer solutions, with a strong focus on natural catastrophes and climate risks.
As a member of the global Technical Sales team, you will work closely with the regional Public Sector Solutions (PSS) client management teams, as well as with underwriting and structuring teams across Swiss Re’s business units.
The role involves representing PSS’s solution capabilities within the respective region, enabling the delivery of client-ready, value-adding solutions that respond effectively to client needs. The successful candidate will apply their own expertise while leveraging Swiss Re’s broad technical capabilities through close collaboration with cross-functional teams across the Group.
Strong technical skills, including analytical, structuring, and underwriting expertise, are essential. Equally important is the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and accessibly, both in writing and verbally, to expert and non-expert audiences alike with the stated goal to boost sales.
The position requires frequent engagement with public sector clients, brokers, modelling firms, and data providers across all levels of seniority.
Key accountabilities include:
- Representing Swiss Re technical expertise with natural catastrophe and climate risks, with a particular focus on the Americas region. Introducing, explaining and preparing underwriting ready product solutions.
- Representing and leveraging the full spectrum of Swiss Re’s products and solutions across multiple lines of business, effectively acting as a connector and “solutions broker.”
- Contributing to sales effectiveness and improving conversion rates through strong relationship-building, communication skills, and thoughtful use of sales techniques.
- Leading larger-scale PSS transactions and development projects, covering traditional structuring and underwriting as well as product and solution development.
- Collaborating closely with product experts and local client-facing teams, including in client interactions, to ensure high-quality, effective delivery of sales efforts and to represent the team’s technical expertise regionally.
- Acting as a bridge between client needs and Swiss Re’s capabilities, translating technical content into clear language and illustrations that resonate with non-experts.
- Enhancing efficiency by supporting the replication of successful transactions, thereby strengthening effectiveness and the overall economics of PSS transaction management.
About the Team
Governments and other public sector entities are increasingly aware of the range of risks they assume as both explicit and implicit risk holders. Over the past 16 years, Swiss Re has invested significantly in partnering with public sector stakeholders to build awareness of this evolving risk landscape and to identify how risk transfer solutions can help governments address emerging fiscal and societal challenges.
The continued success of Public Sector Solutions represents a meaningful opportunity for further growth and business development, reinforcing the public sector as an important pillar of Swiss Re’s overall growth strategy across its (re)insurance and capital markets businesses. By supporting our clients, we help accelerate economic development, strengthen risk awareness, and enhance social resilience.
Our ambition is to systematically develop public sector business opportunities by engaging national and municipal governments, NGOs, and development banks in a coordinated, Group-wide approach. We provide tailored risk transfer solutions designed to reduce governments’ contingent liabilities, ranging from innovative non-traditional structures—such as pandemic catastrophe bonds—to reinsurance solutions supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in the context of a changing climate.
While our solutions span a broad range of risks, large natural catastrophes and large-scale climate-related exposures remain central to our business and to our impact.
To support our ambitious growth objectives, we are seeking an individual with a primary focus on the Americas, who is motivated by complex challenges and keen to contribute to Public Sector Solutions in a technically focused, client-facing role.
About You
To be successful, the following key capabilities are critical:
- Ideally 6–10 years of relevant professional experience, for example in underwriting, risk assessment, risk modelling, or applied sciences (e.g. earthquake, tropical cyclone, flood, or climate risk). Experience with index-based (parametric) risk transfer solutions is an advantage.
- Interest in origination and sales. Proven track record in developing industry relevant networks. Effective speaker and skilled communicator to bridge between the "science" of risk assessment and the "sales" of risk transfer products
- Experience in the insurance industry, Insurtech, broker organizations, or other closely related fields. A demonstrable and broad industry network is a plus.
- Academic background in a STEM-related discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics), with a master’s degree or higher, and strong familiarity with quantitative environments.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, accessible materials suitable for client-facing discussions and commercial decision-making
- A proactive and engaged professional who enjoys working in a global environment, often within virtual, cross-time-zone teams, and who communicates effectively and confidently.
- A strong team player, comfortable taking on different roles in a fast-changing and agile environment and motivated to collaborate with a truly global team.
- Persistence and resilience, combined with the ability to maintain a strategic perspective while paying close attention to detail.
