Senior Property Claims & Key Case Expert (Hybrid Work Model)

We have an opportunity for a Senior Key Case Expert who will drive the successful resolution of Swiss Re's largest and most complex Property cases.

 

About the Role

 

This Senior Claims and Key Case Expert position is based in the United States and sits within Property & Casualty (P&C) Reinsurance and our P&C Re Operations Division, reporting to the Global Head of Claims P&C Re.

 

You will be a member of the Key Case Committee and will be working in collaboration and mentoring Swiss Re's Market Unit Claims Managers. This role represents Swiss Re in client engagements and in industry bodies at senior levels, globally. The successful candidate will exercise thought leadership and provide insights that have impact on Swiss Re and on our clients.  

 

Principal accountabilities:

 

  • Lead the Global Property Expert Network
  • Work on multiple Key Cases
  • Active participation in Key Case Committee and Key Case Focus meetings and promote favorable resolution strategies
  • Support Market Unit Claims Managers (Key Case Owners), ensuring resolution strategy and reserving consistency on underlying insurance and reinsurance participations across lines of business; review strategy in case of new developments
  • Representing the firm in industry associations and on conferences, hold external and internal presentations and write articles and whitepapers
  • Build lasting relationships with clients, claims counterparts, brokers, loss adjusters, law firms and reinsurance buyers
  • Contribute to P&C Re's Client Value Proposition by positioning and representing primary claims insurance topics that can contribute to originating business
  • Support the Client Teams and Clients in legal claims and re/insurance related matters, in the development of reinsurance solutions as well as in advising on material legal developments
  • Ensure knowledge transfer within and outside of claims and develop and maintain strong feedback loop between the Product Underwriting, Market Unit and other cross functional teams

 

 

About You

 

You have a natural curiosity, a willingness to be a team player and ability to influence and persuade others of your claims strategy. You are strategic, analytical and a conceptual thinker with an entrepreneurial mind-set focused on delivering results.

 

You are recognized in the (Re)Insurance Property Claims market as an expert with strong experience in coverage topics, knowledge of industry positions on key coverage issues and broad applied experience with different resolution mechanisms. You have A successful track record of resolving complex cases utilizing solid negotiation experience and skills. You may bring additional experience in Specialty (Aviation, Construction, Engineering, Energy, Marine, etc) and Liability (products liability, D&O, PI and Casualty) claims handling.

 

Key requirements:

 

  • Legal, Insurance or Engineering background
  • Minimum of ten years senior claims management experience in handling complex insurance and / or reinsurance claims, including litigation and arbitration expertise
  • Property expert (cases, publications, conference participations) with a focus on US and EMEA
  • Expert knowledge and practice in the assessment of insurance and reinsurance contracts, clauses, policy terms and conditions
  • Ability to identify issues in claims presented to Swiss Re on both the original and the reinsurance side as well as capability to handle them appropriately
  • Full understanding of relevant industry best practices and initiatives which impact Swiss Re's bottom line result
  • Fundamental understanding of finance and reserving processes as well as reserving rationale and resulting impact
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Evidence of thought leadership with impact, in particular regarding primary insurance topics with significant relevance for Swiss Re's clients
  • Excellent influencing and presentation skills
  • Coaching and mentorship for high potentials in Claims

  • Capability to externally defend Swiss Re's position in market meetings; and, internally represent the chosen strategy/position to relevant bodies (e.g. Key Case Committee)
