Aviation Actuary Intern (6 months, starting April 2025)

About the Role

 

The role is within the P&C Reinsurance Business Unit in the Global Specialty Division. You will focus on Aviation portfolio costing, pricing, and enhancing our actuarial models. Additionally, you’ll support underwriters, with the potential to grow into an underwriting role.

 

You will be performing a variety of functions including, but not limited to:

 

  • Participate in the Swiss Re Costing and Accuracy framework (SCARF) to enhance our aviation model, assessing the impact of model changes on our portfolio, and presenting findings to key internal stakeholders.
  • Conducting in-depth market analysis of the Aviation industry to inform strategic decisions
  • Assisting underwriters by performing treaty technical costing assessments to evaluate risks and optimize

 

About the Team

 

We are an experienced team of 10 located in Zurich and Munich. Our team includes actuaries, underwriters who collaborate with client managers, risk managers, claims and reserving experts. We underwrite a Worldwide book of Aviation and Space reinsurance business. You will join a collaborative environment consisting of an international underwriting team. Our clients are based all over the world and the interactions are via Brokers but also on a direct basis. This is a wonderful opportunity to join a unique specialty line of business, and a dedicated group of professionals.

 

About You

  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or comparable.
  • Reinsurance knowledge is a plus
  • Proficiency in Python (familiarity with PySpark is a plus)
  • You demonstrate superior analytical skills
  • Comfortable in presenting your work and arguments in front of stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written English; additional language skills advantageous
