About the Role
This is your opportunity to be at the heart of one of the world's most dynamic reinsurance markets. As an Underwriter Engineering, you will develop and manage engineering treaty and facultative reinsurance business with a focus on the French market, while supporting other EMEA markets. You'll work alongside a talented, internationally diverse team, bringing technical expertise and creative thinking to complex risk challenges — and helping Swiss Re's clients build a more resilient world. Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite Engineering treaty and facultative business with a primary focus on France, including technical and actuarial assessment, wording review, and negotiation with clients
- Conduct post-underwriting activities such as risk surveys, portfolio reserve setting, treaty and facultative account servicing, and claims support
- Source and develop new Engineering business by deepening relationships with insurance companies and brokers, positioning Swiss Re as the preferred partner for engineering solutions — including decennial insurance, construction and infrastructure, parametric covers, and renewable energy
- Strengthen Swiss Re's leading position in the French engineering reinsurance market in line with company strategy
- Deliver competent and responsive client service, including advice, special acceptances, training sessions, and workshops Drive product innovation by partnering with clients to craft tailored, client-specific solutions
- Enhance Swiss Re's external visibility on Engineering topics through market events, publications, and social networks
- Collaborate across business units to identify and develop new business opportunities in Transactions and Solutions
- Contribute actively to the Swiss Re Global Engineering community through knowledge sharing, special projects, and research initiatives
- Support the implementation of strategic initiatives for the Special Lines business
About the Team
We are a large international Global Engineering team with presence in 14 offices around the world. Our task is to conduct risk assessments and develop reinsurance solutions for our insurance clients. Our team has a wide range of different technical and scientific backgrounds and experiences complemented by a strong team spirit. In addition, our team develops new and creative solutions for our clients that address the newest technological developments and how these shape our client's risk profiles.
About You
You are an intellectually curious and client-focused professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You bring strong analytical thinking, excellent communication skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for technical topics. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, making decisions under pressure, and building lasting relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Whether you are early in your reinsurance career or bring years of expertise, you are motivated to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to the team.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- University degree in a scientific or commercial field; Engineering, Actuarial, or Computer Science qualifications are a strong advantage
- Experience in the (re)insurance industry, ideally in treaty underwriting — we welcome candidates with 3+ years of experience as well as those earlier in their careers who demonstrate strong potential
- Proficiency in English and French (written and spoken), as these are essential for client and market engagement
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience in client markets and other lines of business
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with common IT applications
- Familiarity with engineering lines such as decennial insurance, construction, infrastructure, parametric covers, or renewable energy
- High interest and ability to engage with complex technical topics
- Willingness to travel moderately for client and market engagements
- Additional language skills beyond English and French
- Proven ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions in ambiguous situations
- Experience contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives or cross-functional projects
For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between 100,000 CHF and 150,000 CHF for a full-time role. The specific salary offered considers:
- The requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role
- The applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Furthermore, you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract. Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
