Head of Collateral Management (Hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)

Are you a collaborative, solutions-driven professional who leads with integrity, takes ownership, and is ready to shape the future of collateral operations at the heart of one of the world's leading reinsurance groups? This is your opportunity to inspire a high-performing global team, drive strategic improvements, and make a real impact across a dynamic, international environment.

About the Role

As Head of Collateral Management within Asset Management COO, you will take ownership of a critical function that underpins Swiss Re's global collateral activities. Leading a talented team across Zurich and New York, you will oversee the full collateral management value chain — spanning securities finance, derivatives, re-/insurance, and intra-group loans — while ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and strong stakeholder partnerships across the organisation.

This is a senior leadership role that combines strategic vision with hands-on operational accountability, offering a unique platform to influence both the day-to-day and the long-term direction of collateral operations at Swiss Re.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Head Group Collateral in all operational matters of the collateral management program, acting as a trusted and proactive partner
  • Champion as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders including Risk, Audit, and Group Reporting — supporting audits, regulatory inquiries, and management reporting
  • Orchestrate management meetings and committees, ensuring clear communication, follow-through, and alignment across functions
  • Represent Swiss Re externally in dealings with market participants, operational counterparts, and regulatory bodies
  • Lead daily collateral management activities across securities finance, derivatives, and re-/insurance transactions with precision and efficiency
  • Oversee margin call processes, optimal collateral allocation, dispute management, and end-to-end transaction lifecycle activities
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex collateral disputes, settlement issues, and operational incidents — driving timely and effective resolution
  • Maintain a robust operational control environment, ensuring regulatory compliance and consistently high-quality service delivery
  • Drive the strategic development and continuous improvement of the collateral operating model, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and scalability
  • Coordinate priorities, resources, and activities across global teams and stakeholders, fostering alignment and collaboration across regions
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a team of professionals across Zurich and New York — championing employee growth, clear prioritisation of deliverables, and a high-performing, inclusive team culture

About the Team

The Collateral Administration team is an integral part of Asset Management COO and plays a central role in supporting Swiss Re Group's global collateral activities. Operating in a highly international and fast-paced environment, the team works in close partnership with Treasury, Asset Management, Risk, and Operations teams across multiple regions. The team's mandate spans the full spectrum of collateral management — from securities finance and derivatives to re-/insurance and intra-group transactions — making it a dynamic and strategically important function within the organisation.

About You

You are a collaborative, curious and solutions-driven professional who takes ownership, communicates with clarity, and leads with integrity. You thrive in complex, fast-moving environments, bringing a structured and hands-on approach to problem-solving while inspiring those around you to perform at their best. These qualities are underpinned by deep expertise in collateral management and financial markets, giving you the technical foundation to navigate the full collateral value chain with confidence and the leadership presence to drive both operational rigour and strategic progress.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Extensive experience in collateral management, treasury operations, securities finance, and/or derivatives operations — with a strong understanding of the end-to-end collateral value chain
  • In-depth knowledge of operational risk, controls, and regulatory requirements relevant to financial markets and collateral management
  • Proven experience leading teams, projects, or complex operational processes in a global or cross-regional environment
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at executive levels both internally and externally
  • Fluent spoken and written English; proficiency in German is an advantage
