Life & Health Claims Specialist with Dutch Language (80-100%)

About the role
 

We are looking for an experienced Life & Health Claims Specialist to join our EMEA L&H Claims team. The immediate focus of the role holder will be the business of a key client with operations in Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy, while also supporting the work and initiatives of our wider EMEA Claims team.

The opportunity includes:

  • Independent day-to-day assessment of L&H claims

  • Providing technically accurate claims management decisions within authority while applying the appropriate balance of service and risk management

  • Handling the portfolio of new and existing claims in accordance with Swiss Re’s claims philosophy, policy and agreed service standards

  • Demonstrate strong partnership with clients and L&H colleagues

  • Together with your colleagues you will be the primary contact person for the Head of Claims of our clients and have meaningful interactions and discussions to assist in building a deep understanding of the client that allows us to align our claims interests and goals with those of the client.

  • Working closely with internal partners like Client Markets, Underwriting, Actuarial and the wider Claims community, to share claims trends, analyse and interpret data. As well as suggest appropriate interventions to improve the portfolio experience

  • Help to monitor the claims portfolio, perform client audits, and supporting Business Management and other L&H colleagues in the active and cost-effective management of the business

  • Record and maintain accurate claims data on Swiss Re systems, and create business reporting

  • Contribute to projects, initiatives, and other activities such as development and roll-out of Claims Solutions, preparation of seminars and trainings

  • Identify market threats and opportunities

  • Support the day-to-day delivery of the claims value chain to clients in Continental Europe, communicating clearly with clients and enhancing relationships.
     

About the team
 

L&H Business Management EMEA is responsible for handling the inforce business. There are several teams including Claims, Technical Accounting, Actuarial Management, and Portfolio Management activities.

The successful candidate will be a part of the EMEA L&H Claims Management team. We work collaboratively with our internal partners and client companies, sharing insights, building best practices and using our global knowledge and expertise efficiently. The team strives to actively manage the in-force business to deliver maximum shareholder value and to protect the L&H balance sheet.

You will directly report to one of our L&H Claims Managers, each of whom leads a team responsible for claims in one or more EMEA markets.
 

About You
 

  • Formal qualification or study in either business, financial services, law or medical field

  • At least 5 years of experience in direct insurance or reinsurance claims management in the Netherlands, with focus on life insurance and disability products

  • Deep understanding of the Dutch Life & Health insurance market

  • Language skills: proficiency in Dutch. Good knowledge of English or other European languages are of advantage

  • Proven client relationship management experience

  • Significant awareness of market and portfolio dynamics, including the ability to anticipate and mitigate potential risks and opportunities

  • Training and presentation skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Data analytical skills

  • Problem solving approach

  • Ability to bring new ideas, develop solutions, followed by effective implementation

  • Paying attention to detail with the ability to step back and consider the wider commercial perspective

  • Claims management experience of other Continental European markets, e.g. Swiss or Italian is beneficial
