NatCat & Geo Modelling Product Manager (hybrid - m/f/x/d -80%-100%)

We are looking for a Senior Nat Cat and Geo Modelling Solutions Product Manager! Are you a product professional who likes driving complex, cross-functional projects in an agile way? Are you an avid learner, both on geospatial capabilities and natural catastrophe risk assessment approaches and like to collaborate across domains? Then this opportunity could be for you!

About the Role

The role provides an opportunity to work at the forefront of Swiss Re's Nat Cat and Geo Modelling. You become a member of the Cat Perils team which is responsible for the natural catastrophe risk views and model of Swiss Re, and you make sure our modelling products meet the needs of our P&C (Property and Casualty reinsurance) Solutions clients.

This new role is located in Zurich and will report to the Head of Cat and Geo Modelling in the Cat Perils organisation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Be the go-to person and represent Cat Perils products as a product expert in internal communication to Swiss Re's solution unit and orchestrate day-to-day Cat or Geo assets content requests with the broader Cat Perils team.
  • Organize and share requirements and priorities from the Solutions units with the internal Cat Perils stakeholders, model developers and IT delivery teams to establish a joint product roadmap.
  • Drive the product development, ideation, launch and commercialization of innovative Nat Cat and Geo related services, products, and applications. Identify opportunities and contribute to the NatCat and Geo product vision, strategies, and roadmaps. Be a peer and mentor to other Cat Perils team members for end-to-end understanding of how their products can be leveraged from an external commercialisation perspective.
  • Contribute to the Cat Perils global agenda with a business impact attitude, delivering tangible outcomes with a sense of urgency.
  • Support the build-up of a transparent prioritisation framework enabling the management of Cat Perils products portfolio (models, services applications).

About the Team

We are Swiss Re's global in-house unit covering NatCat and Geo products. We create value for Swiss Re by driving confident Nat Cat decisions. With our proprietary modelling technology for natural catastrophe perils, we bring latest science to UW decision-making, working closely with academia, peers in re/insurance underwriting and further support our business in all matters related to natural catastrophe risk. A relevant aspect for this role is the support of the P&C solutions team in the context of the external commercializing of Cat Perils NatCat and Geo assets.

About you

You are a dedicated teammate with a high degree of own initiative and the readiness to go the extra mile (job might include occasional weekend activity and travel). With your excellent interpersonal skills, you have proven your ability to create alignment and joint movement as well as build trust with peers in the business teams by providing relevant and deep insights. You balance technical excellence with business needs in a pragmatic way and are agile in responding to stakeholders' needs, always focusing on where it matters most.

Technical skills and education:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in quantitative natural sciences, engineering, Earth Sciences, Geography or equivalent
  • 3+ years of industry or post PhD academic experience in natural catastrophe modelling or Geo analytics preferably in a re/insurance context
  • Proven communication skills and capability to effectively document and verbally communicate requirements and product success to development staff or business stakeholders
  • Experience with Swiss Re modelling framework, property UW tool landscape and Geo products is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with NatCat platform providers (e.g. Oasis, RMS, Verisk, Corelogic)
  • Ideally experience working in a sophisticated technical environment with multiple delivery teams to drive product vision, define product requirements, coordinate resources and guide stakeholders and teams through key milestones
  • Experience in providing technology innovation through aligning software capabilities with market opportunities in re/insurance.
  • Strong project management, communication and presentation skills, ideally with project portfolio management expertise
  • Professional network within the academic and/or industry natural catastrophe modelling community

We are looking forward to your application!
