Portfolio Owner - Engineering & Construction Underwriting (RoW) (Hybrid - 80-100%)

Shape the future of risk in the engineering world with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

Are you an experienced portfolio leader ready to drive and steer an insurance portfolio spanning complex construction, engineering, and renewable energy projects across the globe? Join us in this pivotal role where your technical expertise and strategic mindset will directly influence how major international projects are underwritten, managed and grown.

About the Role

The Engineering & Construction (E&C) portfolio at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is managed globally by two Level 2 Portfolio Owners: one responsible for the Americas and one for the Rest of the World. Both roles report directly to the Global Head of Engineering & Construction.

As Portfolio Owner, Rest of World, you will be at the heart of shaping and executing the global E&C portfolio strategy. You will drive profitable growth, set strategic underwriting priorities, and work in close collaboration with Market Units across France, Germany/Austria, BeNeLux/Nordics, Italy, Switzerland, UK/Ireland, Australia/New Zeland and Asia. You will ensure a consistent underwriting approach while aligning local execution with global objectives and governance standards — making this a truly international and high-impact leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent Swiss Re Corporate Solutions at senior levels with key brokers, clients, and industry conferences, building and maintaining high-value external relationships
  • Co-define and execute the Global E&C portfolio strategy and vision, with a clear focus on driving profitable and sustainable growth
  • Develop and maintain portfolio plans — including business plans, growth targets, and capacity allocation — ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and risk appetite; track delivery against plan and adapt as market conditions evolve
  • Monitor and manage portfolio composition, performance trends, and exposure concentrations; propose and implement corrective actions where needed
  • Act as senior technical authority on complex underwriting decisions and emerging risk topics across the engineering and construction landscape
  • Drive the development of new solutions to address evolving client needs in the engineering, construction, and renewable energy sectors
  • Present financials and strategic topics to senior management on a regular basis, communicating portfolio performance with clarity and confidence
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting standards, risk governance frameworks, and portfolio controls across all Market Units in scope

About the Team

You'll be joining an international core team with diverse technical backgrounds and a shared passion for engineering and construction risk. While Market Unit Underwriters report into their respective regions, you'll work closely with colleagues across the global Engineering & Construction and Renewable Energy community.

Our team blends deep technical expertise with a strong collaborative spirit, always focused on delivering the best outcomes for our clients. We foster a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning — across borders, disciplines, and backgrounds. Whether you're navigating a complex renewable energy deal or shaping a new underwriting approach, you'll be supported by a team that values both rigour and creativity.

About You

You are an experienced engineering and construction professional who has successfully built a career in insurance leadership, combining deep technical knowledge with sharp commercial acumen. You are decisive when it matters, collaborative by nature, and passionate about developing talent and fostering an inclusive team culture. You bring a strategic vision that is matched by your ability to execute, and you thrive in complex, international environments where no two days are the same.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • University degree in an engineering discipline (civil, mechanical, chemical, or process engineering) or comparable qualification, with a strong affinity for the engineering and construction industry
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering underwriting experience with a primary insurance or reinsurance company, including demonstrated expertise in complex risk assessment
  • Fluency in English, with a strong command of international Engineering & Construction policies, wordings, and contractual frameworks
  • Strong experience in data analytics and portfolio steering, with the ability to translate data insights into decisive strategic actions
  • Proven commercial and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of engaging and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders in an international context
  • Significant experience in underwriting Renewable Energy, with a strong preference for expertise in underwriting off-shore Renewables

These are additional nice to haves:

  • MBA or postgraduate degree in economics, finance, or business administration
  • Broad global network with corporate clients and brokers in the E&C or renewable energy space
  • Experience working with international, cross-functional teams and experience managing insurance portfolios

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
