Public Affairs Manager (m/f/x/d, 80-100% Hybrid)


About the role   

 

As a Public Affairs Manager, you will be responsible for positioning Swiss Re as a thought leader and leading risk knowledge company. You'll be building Swiss Re's reach and influence with decision makers and engaging us in the global discussions and debates underway on the topics that matter most to our business. To achieve that, you'll be communicating thought leadership content and building networks of influence with NGOs, IGOs, academia, industry associations and think tanks while also elaborating strategies to shape stakeholders' thinking and conversations on Swiss Re's Group Topics and as the manager of the 'Navigating Global Markets' Group Topic.  

 

About the role - Tasks 

 

  • Position Swiss Re as a thought leader and leading risk knowledge company in the re/insurance industry 
  • Lead the 'Navigating Global Markets' Group Topic and run the communications campaigns for the "World Insurance" and "Global Economic Outlook" sigma reports
  • Lead relationships with financial services trade associations 
  • Support the building and delivery of a comprehensive and impactful Public Affairs engagement plan for Swiss Re 
  • Work with the team to reach, impress and influence key decision makers in the Public Affairs space by sharing our risk knowledge and advocating our world view 
  • Establishing engagement opportunities, events and moments of dialogue that foster synergies with key stakeholders 
  • Build regionally relevant thought leadership positions and advocacy strategies on our Group Topics, including managing specific Group Topic contents, key messages and narratives 
  • Build effective partnerships and alliances within the Group to help maximise the impact and profile of Swiss Re’s thought leadership 
  • Work in close coordination with colleagues inter alia from the business, Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management and the Swiss Re Institute to identify and deliver aligned impact opportunities globally 
  • Provide Public Affairs advice and support to senior executives, including writing content, presentations and position papers 
  • Build relationships and networks with key international stakeholders and key opinion leaders – from stakeholder mapping to outreach and engagement 
  • Support wider Group Public Affairs initiatives 
  • Measure success based on defined targets and KPIs

About you 

 

You have: 

  • > 5 years of professional-level experience in a public affairs or advocacy role in the private or public sector and have an advanced degree in a related subject (including, but not exclusively, political science, international affairs, macroeconomics, PPE, classics or theology) 
  • Excellent understanding of global issues and trends. A good knowledge of the decision makers, opinion leaders and bodies that have an impact on the world stage  
  • Exceptional political judgement and influencing skills 
  • First class communications skills, able to present, write fluently and compellingly in English  
  • Ability to quickly get an overview of complex matters and synthesise findings 
  • Curiosity and a readiness to originate and implement ideas and new approaches 
  • Strong results orientation and ability to challenge status quo  
  • A growth mindset and can bring new ideas to the table 
  • An ability to think innovatively and creatively about how best to engage with political and policy audiences  
  • Solid planning/project management competence 

 

Nice to have:  

  • Knowledge of re/insurance business is a plus 
  • Proficiency in languages other than English 
  • Very strong analytical and conceptual skills
