Reinsurance Business Development Manager (Hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)
Are you passionate about turning financial insight into real business opportunity? Do you thrive at the intersection of strategy, client relationships, and reinsurance markets? If so, this could be the role for you.
At Swiss Re, we're looking for a curious and commercially minded professional to join our Property & Casualty (P&C) Reinsurance Business Development team — where big ideas meet meaningful client impact.
About the Role
As a Reinsurance Business Development Manager, you'll be at the heart of identifying and developing new business opportunities from EMEA clients within Swiss Re's P&C Reinsurance Business Unit. You'll blend analytical rigour with strategic thinking — generating ideas, analysing data, and presenting compelling reinsurance solutions directly to clients.
Working closely with client management teams, you'll help create reinsurance business while deepening Swiss Re's understanding of client needs, strengthening long-term relationships, and turning insights into tangible opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Analyse client financials — including valuation, investor expectations, capital flexibility, and strategic measures — to identify how reinsurance can enhance client performance
-
Develop and promote the value proposition of reinsurance as a proactive element within clients' strategic and corporate finance toolkit
-
Actively contribute to selected Client Engagement Teams, with a sharp focus on opportunity identification and development
-
Collaborate with underwriting colleagues to stay informed on Swiss Re's risk appetite and identify evolving client needs
-
Engage in strategic client discussions on the value of reinsurance, drawing on knowledge of enterprise valuation, regulatory frameworks, rating agencies, and capital markets
-
Contribute to the global P&C Business Development community — sharing ideas, best practices, and leveraging Swiss Re's global presence to drive results
About the Team
Business Development is a truly global team at Swiss Re. We work across client segments and lines of business to increase business origination and elevate client dialogues — with a particular focus on corporate finance, financial markets, investor dynamics, and regulatory demands.
Our team identifies client needs and applicable reinsurance opportunities, assessing their impact on client financial performance. We're a collaborative group of creative, inquisitive, and commercially driven people who seek out opportunity, explore possibilities, and bring them to life.
About You
You're a proactive self-starter who combines strong analytical skills with a genuine passion for client engagement. You're comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity, and you bring sound commercial judgement to everything you do. Whether you're deep in a financial model or presenting to a senior client, you communicate with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
-
3–5 years of experience in corporate finance, solvency and ratings capital models, and P&C insurance company valuation drivers
-
Strong knowledge of the primary P&C insurance market — including trends, products, and competitive dynamics
-
Excellent communication and sales aptitude — with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders; proficiency in English is required
These are additional nice to haves:
-
Proficiency in German and/or French — a strong advantage for engaging with EMEA clients
-
Experience working within or alongside reinsurance or capital markets environments
-
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and rating agency methodologies relevant to (re)insurance
-
Demonstrated ability to generate and develop new business ideas independently and collaboratively
-
Comfort working in a fast-paced, matrixed global organisation with multiple stakeholders across functions and geographies
For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between 100,000 CHF and 150,000 CHF for a full-time role.
The specific salary offered considers:
-
The requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role
-
The applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience
In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based annual bonus.
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
