About the Role
As an Intern in our Reinsurance Casualty Risk Engineering team, you'll dive into the fascinating world of technical risk assessment while gaining valuable experience in a global reinsurance leader. This Zurich-based opportunity offers hands-on experience with emerging risks and innovative assessment methodologies.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct in-depth research on engineering and science topics relevant to insurance, with special focus on electric vehicles, persistent chemicals, and plastics

Support risk assessment activities across various industries, applying technical knowledge to real-world insurance challenges

Develop data-driven insights and contribute to updating risk assessment methods and tools

Collaborate with international experts to enhance understanding of technical and scientific developments in an insurance context
About the Team
You will work closely with the Casualty Risk Engineering Services team. We are an international team with global remit in Swiss Re's Underwriting Excellence group. Our task is to understand technical and scientific developments and put them into an insurance context. We conduct risk assessments and develop methodologies and tools to support the underwriting of portfolios or individual risks. The team has a broad range of different technical and scientific backgrounds and experiences. Our excellent technical expertise is complemented by a strong team spirit looking for alternative and innovative risk assessment methods to be used in the future and to make the world more resilient.
About You
We're looking for a curious, analytical thinker who can work independently while contributing fresh perspectives to our diverse team. You thrive in collaborative environments and have a passion for applying technical knowledge to solve complex problems.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

Pursuing or recently completed a Master's degree in engineering or chemical/natural science disciplines

Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects

Proficiency in English (additional languages are an advantage)

Advanced skills in Excel and Power BI

Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB
The start date is as soon as possible with an internship duration of 3 months.
