Risk Engineering Services Intern - Property (3-month; m/f/x/d; 100%)

About the Role

As an Intern in our global Reinsurance Property Risk Engineering team, you'll gain hands-on experience applying engineering principles to insurance challenges. This Zurich-based opportunity offers a unique blend of technical research, risk assessment, and data analysis in a collaborative international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on engineering and science topics relevant to insurance, focusing on datacenters, electrical high-voltage grids, and renewable/conventional energy

  • Support risk assessment activities across various industries, applying technical knowledge to real-world scenarios

  • Develop data-driven insights that enhance our understanding of property risks

  • Update risk assessment methods and tools to improve our technical capabilities

About the Team

You will work closely with the Property Risk Engineering Services team. We are an international team with global remit in Swiss Re's Underwriting Excellence group. Our task is to understand technical and scientific developments and put them into an insurance context. We conduct risk assessments and develop methodologies and tools to support the underwriting of portfolios or individual risks. The team has a broad range of different technical and scientific backgrounds and experiences. Our excellent technical expertise is complemented by a strong team spirit looking for alternative and innovative risk assessment methods to be used in the future and to make the world more resilient.

About You

We're looking for a curious, analytical thinker who can bring fresh perspectives to our team. You thrive when solving complex problems and can translate technical concepts into practical applications. Your strong communication skills allow you to collaborate effectively in our diverse international environment.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Pursuing or recently completed a master's degree in engineering

  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives

  • Proficiency in English (additional languages are advantageous)

  • Advanced skills in Excel and Power BI

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB

 

 

The start date is as soon as possible with an internship duration of 3 months.
