Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter - Western & Southern Europe, MEA (Hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)
We are looking for YOU - an open minded, self-motivated, and business savvy Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter to join our Treaty Underwriting team, based in Zurich!

About the Role

Drive the assessment and pricing of reinsurance treaties using both quantitative and qualitative analysis

Lead actuarial costings and technical assessment for transactions using available data and incorporating external trends and market insights

Review the contract wording in line with treaty coverage and guidelines, including market-specific considerations

Source new opportunities proactively and optimize existing reinsurance programs

Partner with clients and brokers to understand their motivations, assess risk and capital drivers, and find solutions for their needs based on our capabilities

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product and market insights inform decision-making

Steer the Casualty portfolio by working closely with the Client Underwriting (CUW) team. Represent the interests of the Casualty line of business, ensure alignment with strategic objectives and driving the implementation of underwriting strategies.

Stay ahead of industry developments, analyze future industry/economic/legal trends and contribute to product innovation and Casualty market positioning

Be a key liaison between the underwriting function and the market unit, ensuring that product-specific insights and market dynamics are effectively integrated into underwriting decisions and portfolio steering.

About the Team
You will be part of Swiss Re's Reinsurance Casualty Treaty Underwriting unit working closely with our other underwriting units, transactions team and various other business functions. We are a multi-national team of around 20 operating out of London, Luxembourg, Milan Munich, Paris, Johannesburg and Zurich and with a wide variety of cultural and professional backgrounds.
Our work ranges from underwriting and pricing specific reinsurance transaction to managing the overall Casualty portfolio as well as shaping SR´s reinsurance market positioning on Casualty lines.

Moreover, you bring these qualifications:

Master's Degree in mathematics, statistics, data analysis, actuarial science, finance, economics, or equivalent working experience

Minimum 8 years of experience in Casualty Treaty Underwriting, ideally with exposure to the Middle East and/or South African market.

Experience across various Casualty lines of business, such as Motor, Liability, Financial Lines and Personal Accident.

Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with a solid grasp of actuarial and financial principles, balanced with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.

Familiarity with legal frameworks and risk drivers relevant to casualty lines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and one additional language, ideally Arabic.

A collaborative mindset and passion to work in a cross-cultural environment.
These are additional nice to haves:

Additional language skills, such as Spanish, Italian or French

Work experience in the Middle East and ideally Southern Africa

Hands-on experience with reinsurance pricing tools and actuarial modelling

Experience in client-facing roles, sales, negotiations or similar relationship management
For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between 136,000 CHF and 204,000 CHF for a full-time role.

• the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role
• the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialization, skills and experience
In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based annual bonus.
