Senior Reserving Actuary (m/f/x/d, 80-100% Hybrid)

About the role 

 

Excellent opportunity for an experienced P&C reserving actuary to further develop her/his career within an international business environment. This position is embedded in the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Actuarial Reserving Team responsible for the regions Europe and Middle East (EMEA) as well as Latin America (LATAM), which is part of the Swiss Re Group Risk Management. 

 

As a Senior Actuary your main focus in this role will be on reserving, economic valuation and financial reporting. Furthermore, you support the business unit's growth strategy by collaborating in various actuarial projects such as M&A activities and supporting the actuarial process development. In addition, you will regularly and extensively discuss business results and behaviors with senior stakeholders of our organization. 

 

The main responsibilities are:

•    Quarterly estimation of P&C insurance portfolio reserves (IFRS, local statutory) including close cooperation with key internal stakeholders (Claims, Underwriting, Pricing, Finance/Accounting) and presentation of results to senior management

•    Calculation of the corresponding pay-out patterns serving as one of the input parameters for IFRS and solvency calculations 

•    Preparation of internal and external (statutory) financial reports and presentations 

•    Detailed adhoc portfolio reviews and analyses as required 

•    Support of actuarial reserving tool and reporting process development including coordination with Swiss Re actuarial teams across different regions

•    Actuarial support in M&A projects and growth strategies

 

Key factors to a successful fulfillment of these responsibilities are close interactions with the main internal stakeholders as well as observation of external factors such as market and regulatory changes followed by adequate measures. 

  

About the team 

 

The incumbent will be part of the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Zurich based actuarial team. The team is responsible for determining the technical reserves at adequate levels meeting all IFRS and local statutory requirements for the regions EMEA as well as LATAM. In addition, the team is supporting Swiss Re Group in all actuarial risk management aspects with respect to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.       


About you

 

The most relevant criteria for this position are the following:  

•    Qualified or close to be qualified reserving actuary with at least 5 years of experience in P&C (re-)insurance 

•    Excellent understanding of IFRS financial principles and reserving methods for P&C (re-)insurance business including working experience in solvency calculations and regulatory finance reporting

•    Programming skills in R, SAS, or other related languages

•    Strong interpersonal as well as written and verbal English communication skills, additional language skills (e.g. Spanish, Portuguese) will be considered a plus

•    Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute across multiple work efforts simultaneously

•    Integrative personality with the ability to successfully work together with different personal styles and cultures 

•    Proactive working attitude
