Zurich, Zurich, CH
Senior Structurer (Hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)
Are you a quantitative thinker with a passion for financial markets and a talent for solving complex, novel problems? Do you thrive at the intersection of financial engineering and reinsurance? If so, this is your opportunity to join a globally active team where your expertise will shape innovative solutions for clients across multiple asset classes and risk types.
About the Role
As a Senior Structurer within the Trading and Structuring unit of Financial Markets Reinsurance, you'll be at the heart of designing and pricing cutting-edge reinsurance solutions with embedded financial market exposures. Working as part of a collaborative global team, you'll bring together financial engineering, derivative structuring, and quantitative analytics to solve some of the most interesting and complex challenges in the reinsurance space.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new products, structuring deals across multiple asset classes and risks in close collaboration with Swiss Re's clients
- Engineer hedging strategies, including derivative and structured finance approaches, to manage exposures arising from new transactions
- Formulate pricing methodologies for novel risks and embedded exposures, seamlessly bridging financial market and actuarial techniques
- Apply financial engineering techniques in a reinsurance context, leveraging both quantitative models and market experience to deliver robust solutions
- Support Client Markets and reinsurance structuring teams in the promotion and marketing of reinsurance products linked to market risk exposures
- Conduct risk and pricing analytics on structured transactions, including programming and use of quantitative toolkits
- Drive internal risk review and approval processes, ensuring structured transactions meet rigorous internal standards
- Analyse and manage innovative savings-block based positions, rate-exposed asset-liability structures, and asset-backed financing arrangements
About the Team
This role sits within the Trading and Structuring unit of Financial Markets Reinsurance — a dynamic, globally connected team at the forefront of reinsurance innovation. The unit is directly responsible for managing reinsurance transactions with embedded financial market exposure, fulfilling this mandate through enhanced analytics, the design of structured transactions, risk mitigation strategies, and the optimal steering of investment activity. The team operates at a unique intersection of financial markets and reinsurance, making it an exciting and intellectually stimulating environment where no two challenges are the same.
About You
We're looking for a curious, driven, and analytically minded professional who is energised by tackling new and unfamiliar problems. You bring a strong foundation in quantitative methods and financial markets, and you're equally comfortable working independently and collaborating across diverse, global teams. You communicate complex ideas with clarity and confidence, and you're passionate about applying your expertise in a dynamic, client-facing environment.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Deep quantitative expertise: Strong understanding of quantitative analysis, model development, and pricing strategy — particularly in the context of solving novel, complex problems
- Academic foundation: Degree (or equivalent) in Mathematical Finance, Pure Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline
- Relevant industry experience: 3+ years of meaningful experience in financial markets, ideally with a derivative structuring background or a structuring-focused role at an insurer, fund manager, bank, or reinsurer
- Derivatives knowledge: Solid experience with financial derivatives and their practical applications across a range of market conditions
- Programming and analytical skills: Demonstrated experience with analytical toolkits and scripting/coding languages (R and/or Python) in a professional environment
- Strong relationship-building skills, with a track record of forming productive networks across business functions
- Demonstrated leadership qualities: fostering teamwork, facilitating conflict resolution, and operating effectively within diverse teams
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience or familiarity with insurance or reinsurance concepts and structures
- Experience in trading financial instruments
- Ability to apply existing knowledge to unfamiliar settings — intellectual agility and adaptability are highly valued
- Internal organisational awareness: ability to recognise and capitalise on trends and events within a large organisation that affect business performance
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal stakeholders
