Senior Underwriter Energy (80 - 100% working degree)

About the team

We are a centralised and specialist underwriting team, based in London & Zurich, reporting into the wider Global Energy division, with stakeholders located in Zurich, Houston & Singapore with a Global portfolio. We are focused on profitable underwriting of Offshore & Onshore Energy risks and supporting the wider energy industry on its transition path to a more sustainable future. Our target customers include Refining, Petrochemical, Exploration & Production and Drilling Contractors for their property damage, business interruption and natural catastrophe protection needs.

About the role

This role is focused on Offshore & Onshore Energy, but with potential to expand into other Energy lines where you will be responsible for your own accounts in a short timescale.

You are expected to assist with marketing and promoting the company with clients, brokers, and market bodies to develop personal relationships. Ideally you are familiar with SR's product range, help develop solutions to maximise clients and SR's shareholder value.

You will participate in internal communication particularly with client management teams and other front office teams/units to develop and leverage client and product knowledge

You will assist in analyzing and carrying out management reporting for the portfolio i.e. rating/pricing risks, reserving requirements, capacity monitoring and ensuring achievement of underwriting profit goals in the area with acceptable loss ratios within the broad guidelines of CorSo and SR Group underwriting philosophy.

You are expected to make sure that underwriting electronic files, entries, etc are up to date and in compliance with Swiss Re standards

Your researching/keeping up with technical and market developments will ensure appropriate up to date information/data prior to assessing risks.

Along with the team you will help to maintain and develop strategic relationships with key broker producers and clients. You will also be expected to coordinate with various other underwriters in CorSo to maximize cross-selling opportunities.

Key responsibilities:

• Responsible for contributing in underwriting and maintaining a profitable account.

• Underwrite own portfolio by pricing, data entry, nat cat accumulation control within Group Guidelines.

• Act as mentor and provide training to more junior members of the team.

• Working with the team in London/Zurich and using resources elsewhere in the Group (Products/RES/Claims/Actuarials).

• Be involved in negotiating final terms & conditions with the broker in line with the business plan and corporate guidelines requirements.

• Servicing post underwriting needs.

• Assists in preparing business and strategic plans for developing the Power & Utility book.

• Sharing experience and expertise with other members of the team, individually and during weekly meetings.

• Providing input into planning.

• Giving input into various reporting requirements.

• Working with underwriting assistants to ensure accurate recording of data on the SR systems.

About you

• 5-10 years general (re)insurance underwriting knowledge or relevant engineering industry experience in the Energy sector.

• Progression to ACII useful, but not essential.

• Highly IT proficient

• Strong marketing and negotiation skills
