Solutions Architect
About the Team and our Scope
You will join the Data and Technology Finance area at Swiss Re, a team at the heart of a significant transformation in how finance data is sourced, managed, transformed, and consumed across the organisation.
The role sits within Finance Data Foundation, the product area responsible for providing the data ingestion and transformation backbone that underpins finance. Our solutions enable reliable, scalable, and well-governed data flows that support critical finance processes, reporting, analytics, and decision-making.
We believe that effective architecture is only possible with a strong understanding of the business processes, data, and people it supports. This role requires technical expertise, and you will work directly with other architects and engineering teams, but it is not a purely technical role. We are looking for someone who can connect technology solutions to real business needs, work closely with stakeholders, and design end-to-end solutions that are robust, pragmatic, and fit for purpose.
About the Role
We are looking for a Solutions Architect who combines technical depth with business curiosity. You will understand how finance works, translate complex needs into clear architectural direction, and partner with engineers, product owners, data specialists, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions that are sustainable, scalable, and genuinely useful.
As a Solutions Architect, you will develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end Finance data landscape. This includes how data flows into Finance from technical accounting and actuarial systems, how it is validated and transformed, and how calculations are performed to support reporting, analytics, and decision-making. You will build a sound understanding of the business processes, data products, platforms, controls, and people involved, enabling you to design solutions that are both technically robust and fit for real-world use.
In the era of AI, we believe architecture must be grounded in evidence, not assumptions. You will validate solution designs with real data points, explore opportunities to use modern tooling and automation, and work directly with engineering teams to ensure solutions come to life as envisioned.
This is not a role for a hands-off architect. We are looking for someone who stays close to delivery, engages actively with engineers and stakeholders, and is willing to go deep enough into the detail to make good architectural decisions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining an end-to-end architectural understanding of how data flows into, through, and out of the entire Finance landscape including actuarial and risk systems.
- Proactively recognising optimisation opportunities across the Finance data landscape, including data flows, transformation logic, controls, platform usage, and delivery processes.
- Translating business and technology needs into clear, pragmatic solution designs that can be understood by engineers, product owners, data specialists, and senior stakeholders.
- Partnering closely with engineering teams to shape solutions, validate assumptions, remove ambiguity, and ensure architectural decisions are implemented effectively.
- Working with product owners and business stakeholders to understand finance processes, reporting needs, control requirements, and data quality expectations.
- Designing scalable, resilient, and well-governed solutions for data ingestion, transformation, validation, lineage, and consumption.
- Assessing solution options and making clear recommendations based on business value, technical feasibility, maintainability, cost, risk, and delivery impact.
- Identifying dependencies, risks, and architectural trade-offs early, and communicating them clearly to the right stakeholders.
- Promoting modern engineering and architecture practices, including automation, observability, reusability, documentation, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Using real data points, process insight, and stakeholder feedback to validate that solutions are fit for purpose and deliver the intended outcome.
- Acting as a bridge between business, architecture, product, and engineering teams, ensuring that solution direction remains coherent from concept through delivery.
About You
You are a pragmatic, curious, and delivery-minded Solutions Architect who enjoys working at the intersection of business, data, technology, and engineering. You are comfortable with complexity, but you know how to create clarity for others.
You bring:
- At least 6 years of relevant hands-on experience in architecture, solution design or engineering within financial services
- Hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle, with a track record of working closely with engineering teams to ensure solutions are feasible, well-designed, and fit for purpose
- Strong data skills, including the ability to understand data models, data flows, transformation logic, data quality issues, lineage, controls, and how data is consumed by business processes, reporting, analytics, and downstream applications
- The ability to understand complex business and technology landscapes, identify the important details, and turn ambiguity into clear direction.
- The confidence to use diagrams, structured thinking, probing questions, and concise documentation to explain problems, options, trade-offs, and recommendations.
- The ability to move between strategic architectural thinking and detailed solution design, including dropping down into data flows, transformation logic, interfaces, controls, and implementation details where needed.
- Experience applying AI tooling effectively, accurately, and appropriately to improve analysis, design, documentation, engineering collaboration, or delivery outcomes.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate complex topics clearly and effectively across technical and non-technical audiences
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Preferably experience with our core technology stack of Apache Spark, Python, SQL and Databricks. Experience working with Microsoft Azure and integrating to and from SAP financial systems would be an extra advantage
