Structuring Actuary (Hybrid - m/f/x/d - 80-100%)

About the Role 


Your primary responsibility in this role will be to help drive the EMEA Life and Health transaction success story, by:

  • Developing and structuring creative, tailor made solutions to meet client needs whilst working with the company's risk appetite
  • Using and building Excel-based models and providing analytic support throughout the deal
  • Supporting transaction execution including coordinating with various internal and external partners, handling timetables, file documentation, reviewing deal documentation for the internal approval process
  • Working part of a cross-disciplinary team, to prepare presentations and documents for clients in order to support the origination of new business
  • As experience develops, you will gradually participate at higher levels of impact, such as transaction structure, counterparty negotiations, and deal origination.
  • This is an exciting position offering excellent opportunities to play a key role in transactions and developing both a deep technical knowledge of structured solutions in life and health and a very wide range of soft skills (such as client interactions, project management, negotiations, and communication). It also provides extensive exposure to senior and executive management of Swiss Re and a wide networking knowledge community. 


About the Team 

 

You will join the diverse and knowledgeable team LHSS, which is part of the Life and Health Underwriting Office. We provide non-traditional life reinsurance solutions via structured reinsurance & capital management transactions to L&H clients. 
The global LHSS team is comprised of over 40 professionals, in various locations including New York, Zurich, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. While the majority are actuaries, a wide variety of professional backgrounds are represented.

You will work extensively with colleagues in many different areas, in particular Client Markets, Business Development, Legal and the different L&H teams both throughout EMEA and globally.

About You 

 

You are able to balance both strong technical skills, with the ability to step back to view “the big picture”. You have diligence for detailed modeling in bespoke and creative transactions, often where no blueprints exist, in a results-based, deadline-intensive environment.
You are motivated and ready to challenge the status quo, with a strong sense of collaboration and team spirit. In addition, you're a confident communicator and can convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

 

Essentials:

  • Part/newly qualified actuary (preferred) with work experience including transactions, or/and financial market risk is a plus
  • Ability to interpret actuarial model output with regards to drivers of surplus emerging and other financials of life insurance portfolios. Experience in cash flow modeling, stochastic modeling, reporting is a plus. 
  • Basic understanding of risk-based capital, Solvency II and IFRS frameworks
  • Comprehension of life insurers business from a financial perspective and capital management concepts
  • Knowledge of some of the core EMEA markets in respect of underlying products, clients, regulatory regimes and transaction activity is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Excellent oral and written English, with German preferred. Additional European languages would be advantageous.
