About the role

This role is within the Reinsurance Business Unit and links into the Engineering Underwriting, the Solutions, IT and the Centre functions. In your role as Business Lead you will:


  • Act as main interface between the Underwriters and the project team. Define and drive the content based on underwriting input. Liaise closely underwriters and with clients when appropriate. Review and develop strong business and use cases based on client needs and interest. Define a sound basis for go/no-go decisions, including benefit metrics, business model, adoption plans and revenue model.
  • Develop Proof of Concepts, Minimum Viable Products/Pilots and operational solutions for the building blocks of Engineering Digital (eg. Contracts, reporting, accounting, claims…).
  • Support implementation of our digital offering with the clients. Work with the underwriters of client cases as Project Manager. Be responsible for the determination of scope and results, of budget and staffing during the various phases of the client projects.
  • Partner with our Solutions team to ensure efficient commercialization of the Digital Engineering offerings.
  • Actively build and maintain a network to collaborate with partners across Swiss Re.
  • Enable timely delivery of results and actively push interdependency and stakeholder management.


About the team and the project

We are a globally operating team located in 15 locations around the world, dedicated to underwriting treaty and facultative Engineering Reinsurance Business. "Engineering Digital" seeks to bring our underwriting expertise closer to the risk, by building costing models for specific business segments, bringing them to our reinsurance clients and rapidly growing the scope of our platforms across products and along the (re)insurance value chain.


About you



  • Master's degree in quantitative science (data, computer, engineering).
  • You have strong entrepreneurial spirit, showing high degree of own initiative, pragmatism and result focus.
  • Profound overview of emerging topics (new players, new data sets, new solutions) in the insurance space and know relevant partners. Insurtech experience is a strong plus.
  • Solid understanding of new technologies impacting the Engineering area such as remote sensing, condition monitoring, BIM, robotics and automation.
  • You have a sound background in data analytics, demonstrate strong analytical skills and can focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture
  • Team-player with credibility and working style to build positive relationships, lead teams and support an open feedback culture.
  • Able to balance multiple projects in parallel, exchange with senior partners and build consensus.
  • You are confident and inspiring in client interactions and experienced in sales.
  • Knowledge of (facultative/direct insurance) underwriting is a plus.
  • Strong desire to work in virtual, multi-national, multi-cultural, cross-company and cross-functional teams, and to be mobile in terms of workplace or location if required.
  • Able to communicate sophisticated concepts in a compelling, concise, and simple way, with superb (written and verbal) interpersonal skills in English and ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Good understanding of mathematical pricing principles as they apply to facultative underwriting.
  • Skilled meeting and workshop moderator, able to bring diverse groups on a common path.
  • You are used to working in an agile working environment.
