About the Role

As a Senior Application Engineer, you will be a cornerstone of our engineering capability — designing, building, and deploying enterprise-grade applications across the full stack. You'll work with Java, Spring Boot, Angular, TypeScript, and Oracle to deliver production-ready solutions while contributing to system architecture, cloud platform engineering, and security design. Key Responsibilities

End-to-End System Delivery

• Design, build, and deploy enterprise-grade Angular applications with Java and Spring Boot-based REST API services that are production-ready and scalable
• Develop reusable components, APIs, and backend integrations that power seamless user experiences.
• Own the full delivery lifecycle : from technical design and implementation through to production deployment and ongoing support
• Debug, optimize, and maintain production codebases across the full stack with a focus on performance and reliability

System Design & Architecture

• Translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions
• Define component interactions, API contracts, event flows, and integration patterns that stand up at enterprise scale
• Collaborate with Technical Product Owners to refine requirements, resolve ambiguity, and align technical direction with business goals
• Evaluate architectural trade-offs and recommend pragmatic, forward-thinking solutions

Cloud, Containers & Platform Engineering

• Build and deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes in cloud-native environments
• Work with Azure services and implement CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation practices
• Ensure operational stability through proactive monitoring, diagnostics, and timely incident resolution

Security & Identity

• Design and implement authentication and authorization solutions using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and JWT-based security patterns
• Ensure secure integration between frontend and backend systems and enterprise identity providers
• Apply secure development practices consistently across the entire application lifecycle

AI-Assisted Engineering (Emerging)

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and improve engineering outcomes
• Validate AI-generated outputs for correctness, security, maintainability, and performance
• Contribute to the evolution of machine-readable technical specifications and deterministic design definitions
• Participate in validation-oriented engineering workflows, helping shape the team's approach to agentic development patterns

Technical Leadership

• Lead technical design discussions and code reviews, raising the bar for engineering quality across the team
• Mentor engineers and actively contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement
• Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and learning within the team

About the Team

Our team is the global L&H Reinsurance Engineering team, responsible for the technical Architecture and Engineering for L&H Reinsurance business unit. The team members are passionate about technology with deep understanding of reinsurance business. We closely collaborate with other teams and colleagues around the globe to share knowledge and engineer solutions.
Growing experience will, over time, give you a broad view on Architecture & Engineering of a global reinsurer and enable you to have a comprehensive understanding, people and systems involved and how these systems shape business outcomes. This will allow you to build a strong engineering team in Hyderabad and become a key technology leader in Swiss Re. We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong recent experience in full-stack enterprise application development.

• Proven experience designing scalable frontend and backend architectures, including APIs, distributed systems, asynchronous messaging, and integration patterns.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, with experience deploying and managing containerized applications in cloud environments.
• Solid experience with Azure cloud services, CI/CD pipeline implementation, and cloud-native deployment models
• Experience with OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT tokens, and enterprise application security models, including secure integration with identity providers.

These are additional nice to haves:

• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) and an interest in emerging agentic engineering paradigms
• Experience structuring systems for machine-readable specifications or contributing to deterministic design definitions
• Strong background in writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests with a quality-first engineering mindset
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead technical design discussions or code reviews
• Experience documenting technical designs and implementations clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Awareness of modern industry trends and a track record of continuous learning and self-development
• Excellent technical communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams
